+ BEZ (Happy Mondays)
+ Sound of the Suburbs
+ Rosspunk

This August the Madchester era explodes onto the south coast and it’s ready to party. Featuring Happy Mondays icon Bez and the classic songs of Inspiral Carpets, the mighty St Paul’s, Worthing, hosts one of the events of summer 2017. For one night only, a fired up flavour of Mancunian clubland institutions such as The Haçienda is resurrected.

The 1980s turning into the 1990s was a golden moment. In the wake of two acid house-addled second summers of love, guitar bands loosened up to a stoned ‘Funky Drummer’ groove. Clad in bucket hats, fractal-décor hoodies and flared Joe Bloggs jeans, music exploded as the loved-up generation embraced ‘baggy’.

Bez is a key figurehead of the time, a maraca-shaking, ever-dancing member of two lynchpin bands, Happy Mondays and Black Grape, an unlikely Big Brother winner, a friend of Joe Strummer, and a man for whom the party seldom stops. He’ll be dropping tunes to bring the night to wild life, taking the crowd with him to a place only Bez knows.

Alongside him Tom Hingley and the Kar-Pets will play a set of Inspiral Carpets greats. Hingley fronted Inspiral Carpets when they were one of Britain’s biggest bands, a group who could sell out the Alexandra Palace. Expect such timeless songs as ‘This Is How It Feels’, ‘She Comes in the Fall’, ‘Caravan’, ‘I Want You’ and ‘Sackville’.

Providing further support is Worthing’s own Indie deck-master, Leon Bateley, in his Sounds Of The Suburbs guise. Veering away from his usual funkin’ soul style, he’ll be digging deep into his indie/new wave/mod side and tearing the roof off.

Whether you were there in 1990 and want to TARDIS back to tie one on, or you weren’t even born and want to large it with Bez, it’s all going off on 11th August. Don’t miss it.
